Medical Update

Most of David's various medical conditions are trending in the right direction. However, because David has remained on a paralytic agent (which is typical when a person recieves ventilator support) we have been unable to adequetely assess David's neurologic function. We have good evidence that David had some spontaneous movements before he recieved the paralytic medication in the ER, which is a very good sign.

Given the potential damaging period of time that David was without normal blood flow to his brain, his neurologic status is a primary concern. The medical team plans to stop the paralytic agent early tomorrow morning in order to assess his current status. This will be possibly his most important assessment to date. He will remain somewhat sedated during this period, but we are hoping for, praying for, a large amount of spontaneous movement during this time. We hope he comes out fighting. We believe he will.

Thank you for your love, support, and prayers.

Stephen and I are deeply saddened about David. I learned the news after I arrived home Saturday night from spending a week in Kentucky with my family. You and your family are in our thoughts and constant prayers. May God hold you all in the palm of his hand.

Emi, thank you for this beautiful blog and pictures of David. How we love him and are praying (and fasting) for a complete recovery. He is such a special, bright, outgoing, capable, wonderful young man. It is so hard to see him on total life support, kept going only by machines, but that shows us that every possible thing is being done for his survival. It is truly in the Lord's hands.
Vickie and Mark have so many wonderfully supportive friends here in North Carolina. They are visiting, and sending food, praying, and loving this family. And David, of course, has so many friends in Logan and elsewhere who are doing the same. Can I tell all of youl how we love you and appreciate the caring you are giving so generously.
Love,
David's Grandma

He has such a sweet spirit and we will be keeping him in our prayers. If you need us to keep our eye on the house here in Logan just let me know, or if there is anything that we can do from here please don't be afraid to drop me an e-mail. keep up the posts so that we all can keep up on what progress has been made. we love you and are thinking of you all.

We are so very grateful for all of the love and support and prayers that we have received. I am thankful for the wonderful people that helped resuscitate our son at the scene, the Emergency Room staff at Hugh Chatham Memorial, the nurses, staff, and physicians that came to show us their support. He has been receiving excellent care here at CMC. David is an amazingly generous and loving person. We are thankful for the time we have had thus far to be with him and are hoping and praying that he will show us some signs today that he is neurologically intact. Again, thank you for your love and support. Keep David in your prayers. Love,
Mark D. Heiner (David's Dad)

Dear Mark & Vicki
You probably would never realize how often you have come into our thoughts and you have continued to be in our prayers since we became connected here in Utah. The Lord has put you on our hearts and in our thoughts so many times since you have moved. We are so deeply saddened to hear about David and want you to know that we love you all and we will continue to uphold you and all of your family and friends in our prayers during this very tragic time. We will always remember your family and will keep you in our prayers now and in the future. With All Our Love In Christ Always, Wendy & Rusty Shelton
